We docked at Inchon, Korea about 7am and Immigration authorities there came onto the ship to clear those going ashore. Everyone had been assigned time slots to appear in order to keep order to the process but, as you might expect with everyone thinking they were above the rules, a goodly number ignored the slots and just came when they felt like it. So, another day started with a built-in schedule delay.

It was a long day today for Beijing. The ship arrived at the Tianjin port on time but China Immigration had to be satisfied that all the paperwork was as it should be so everyone could be accounted for. That involved me to some extent. Turns out that because I had seen the ship’s doctor at some point in the cruise I, and others who had seen the doctor, had to talk with a Chinese doctor to make certain all was OK and I would not be bringing plague into the country. Easy to do but full clearance for everyone could not be granted until all had been cleared.

How’s that for a title: Dark Sun at 7:30? We are on our second sea day between Japan and the port for Beijing, China. I woke about quarter to seven and noted on the map that right about 7:30am we were just opposite the DMZ in Korea on our starboard side and China mainland on the port side.

I had canceled my excursion to the museum and Atomic Bomb Dome due to how I felt but last night before arriving in Hiroshima I started to feel better and had heard about a different excursion that better represented Japan and not memories of the war. So I signed up for it as there was space left. The tour was a vintage liner cruise to Miyajima Island often called “Shrine Island.”

It’s October 9th today and we are at the dock on Yokohama awaiting our departure for Hiroshima about 7pm tonight. Today the bugs struck.

Suddenly it got hot! We went from cold and damp to hot and humid in about a day. Arrived in Yokohama on Sunday morning October 7th and did the Tokyo excursion. It was in the high 80s (35 degrees C) and 50% or so humidity where just a few days before it was around 60 F with a cold wind. Amazing weather change.
