Today the ocean turned into land. We arrived at Oahu (Honolulu) at 8:00am and will be leaving at 10:00pm tonight. We had to dock at a secondary location because another HUGH Princess ship was berthed where we might have been right by the Aloha Tower. Such is life; you have to bow to the bigger sometimes.
Strange as it may seem for the popularity of the sight, the best view of Diamond Head I got all day long was from the balcony of my cabin! Copy of the photo is attached to this post.
Went on a drive around the eastern side of the island today on an excursion. It took a good deal of the main part of the day. I had planned to also do some walking downtown to see the palace and other sights but it got hot and I got lazy and figured I could sort though my old Hawaii slides and show those shots instead of getting new ones. Besides it took me some time to get through security on my way back to the ship after the excursion as they had to “wand” me because the metal detector keep beeping. A few hours later I realized that I had my watch and MedicAlert bracelet both on and that must have been the cause of the alert. Now that I know I can take those off as well and get through faster.
One of the highlights of the excursion was a stop at the Pali Lookout from which you could see the entire northeast side of Oahu. A small version of the panorama I shot is also attached to this post.
For the rest of the narration and photos you will need to come to the presentation for the July Photo Club. Sorry but I can’t give away all the secrets.
Got my magnet for Hawaii so I’m now on the way to making my collection. The back of my cabin door will be full by the time I get back. 🙂
Tonight the ocean turns back into ocean for another several days until we get to Samoa; plus, we turn the clock forward a whole day when we cross the International Date Line. I keep my watch on ship time and another clock on Pacific time so I know what time I have versus what time it is back home. Also all the cameras and recorders are set to Pacific time all the time so I have a consistent set of photos that sort in the proper order. A time conversion can always be done for presentation.
More later.
