We are sitting at the port outside La Paz, Mexico as I write this probably penultimate note for the blog. The port is some ten miles or so away from the city. There is a little marketplace set up by the terminal and a free shuttle ($1 tip suggested) to the city itself that runs about every 20 minutes or so.
This morning I took the shuttle into the city but did not stay long enough to see much of anything as my knee said: “Don’t work me” after I got off the bus. To be honest, there isn’t much to see here as tourist stuff except a rather plain cathedral and a long, pretty, walkway along the beachfront. The cathedral was at the top of a steep hill and the beachfront walk was not something I could really enjoy so I got on the next shuttle back and have caught up on some things here on the ship as well as visiting the little craft market by the terminal. The carved figures are virtually identical to the ones my parents bought on their trips and I now have, so nothing really to buy.
Did go to this morning’s trivia game. We had two teams of four people and the questions were largely those that had been asked before on the world voyage. So, it basically came down to how many answers could each team remember correctly. The team I was on remembered 17 out of 20 and the other 15 so I now have yet another Pacific Princess coaster to add to my collection of those small Frisbees. 🙂
We have an early cast off today (about 5pm) and that will end the “foreign” ports of call for the trip as the next port will be Long Beach on early Monday morning. Everyone but the handful who are staying on to return to Fort Lauderdale will be leaving the ship there and my little cabin will have to get used to someone else. 🙂
Will miss the folks I’ve gotten to know on the trip but we can still stay in touch for awhile longer by writing to each other; in fact just got an e-mail from one who got off in Florida today. But, over time, that will likely fade some. A few are taking the North Pacific cruise in September; we will get together on the Coral Princess.
That’s it for now. No photos today; just random musings. For those counting, the photo count is now up to 22,081 for the trip. I think even the camera is enjoying this little rest. 🙂
